The American Kennel Club (AKC) has its administrative offices located at 51 Madison Avenue, New York, NY, 10010. Its operations offices are located in Raleigh, NC.

If you are uncertain what department or whom to call for non-registration related matters, call (212) 696-8200 (New York), between 8:30 AM and 4:15 PM, Eastern time, except Saturday, Sunday and holidays.

For any registration question or problem, or for a registration application, call the AKC's registration department at (919) 233-9767 between 8:30 AM and 6:30 PM Eastern time. (The registration department is located at 5580 Centerview Drive, Suite 200, Raleigh, NC 27606-3390.)

The normal processing time for an AKC application is two to three weeks. To check the status of an application you have submitted, be prepared to provide the AKC service representative with the following information: breed, sex, litter number, and name choice.

The AKC has a 900 number to enable a person to obtain a list of fanciers in a certain geographical area who breed a specific breed, The number is 1-900-407-7877. (There is a 99 cents per minute charge for this call. According to the AKC, the average call lasts 2-3 minutes.) When you dial the 900 number, you will be asked to enter the first four letters of the name of the breed you are looking for, then your ZIP code. Next, you will be asked to indicate within what mile radius you are willing to travel to obtain this breed. In some instances, you will be given the telephone number of the secretary of the breed's national club or regional club, rather than individual breeders.
