ANNUAL SYMPOSIUM

On February 2, 2014 the Council sponsored their annual Symposium/Seminar. This year’s theme was Show Handling. It was held indoors at Carmichael Park’s Veterans Hall in Carmichael, CA., from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM.

Our guest lecturer was Leslie Puppo, a long-time Professional All Breed Handler and Chairman of the VERY POPULAR 4-day Woofstock Cluster held in June. Leslie is a breeder of Pointers and Curly Coated Retrievers. Leslie resides in Lake County.

Leslie discussed topics of how to make correct entries, what to wear, dog equipment and how to handle. Six dogs at a time were worked by their owners while the other groups watched and learned.

Leslie showed how to present the dogs properly to the judges. There was a table for the smaller breeds and the larger dogs were shown from the ground. We didn’t have any bulldogs, so there was no ramp necessary. Q and A was while the dogs were worked, and during lunch and breaks.

Everyone had a good time and wanted to know when the next one would be. We will try to do another before years’ end with another pro.

Valerie Alfinito, owner of Dog Sports Equipment, was on hand to outfit the dogs with training and show gear. Valerie can be found on her website, www. Dogsportsequipment.com. Her leather goods are legendary and will last forever.

This type of seminar can only accommodate 18 participants, however, we did have several observers. WE had fun!
