Breed Rescue

Rescue programs are operated by fanciers of a particular breed of dog. They seek to place unwanted (usually adult) dogs in responsible, loving homes. Many times dogs come into a rescue program because their owners are moving or getting a divorce, factors that do not diminish a dog's suitability as a companion.

While the policies of different rescue groups vary, dogs are generally checked for health and temperament, brought up-to-date on vaccinations, and spayed or neutered before placement. Prospective homes are carefully screened to ensure that the adoptive family and the dog are suited for one another.
